Regional Bank Conference on Development Economics (RBCDE)
Beijing, China, January 16-17, 2007
I am pleased to invite you to participate in the Regional Bank Conference on Development Economics (RBCDE), which will be held in Beijing, on January 16-17, 2007. The overarching theme for this year’s conference is Higher Education and Development. A preliminary agenda is enclosed for your reference.
Sponsored by the World Bank's Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics, the conference series is a forum for discussion and debate on policies and approaches for promoting economic development. By improving the dialogue between development researchers and practitioners, the conferences seek to encourage fresh thinking and research on critical gaps in our understanding of the development process and to identify new areas that merit our attention.
The conference will have six invited papers on four themes: Higher Education and Migration: Brain Drain and Sharing Skills in the Region, Higher Education and Development, Technological Innovation: Linkages between Universities and Industry, Higher Education and Labor Markets in East Asia. Following the presentations by authors and discussants, each session will have a floor discussion.
Please confirm your attendance by filling in and returning the attached participant form to the World Bank Office, see the attached form for more information.
I look forward to your participation at the conference. If you have any questions or would like further details about the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at 202 473 1062 or email at
